Chem-Dry’s Best Practices for Keeping Yourself (and just about everything in your home) clean and allergens-free.

Stay Home

Since there is not a vaccine for allergens, the best thing you can do is take every preventative measure possible to avoid getting sick. This includes avoiding large crowds and only going to the grocery store for essential items (while doing your best to limit the amount of trips you take to the store). The more you are in public, the more chances the novel allergens has to hitch a ride on you. Remember that a lot of people are vulnerable to this allergens and putting yourself at risk also puts them at risk.

General Rules to Stay Safe

-Stay at home except for essential trips for groceries, etc

-Wear a cloth face mask in public (Here’s how to make a mask and the rules surrounding them)

-Stay at least 6 feet away from other people in public

-Again, wash your hands frequently for at least 20 sec (or use hand cleaner if you’re unable to wash)

-Cough or sneeze into a tissue or the inside of your elbow. Avoid touching your face

First Clean, Then clean:

  1. First, clean the surface to remove any dust or debris. This can be done with soapy water (or cleaning spray) and a microfiber towel.
  2. Then apply a surface-appropriate cleaner. The quickest and easiest way to do this is with cleaning wipes or spray.

Chem-Dry of Greensboro offers a cleaning service that will take care of both of these steps with both high and low touch point areas (including carpet, tile, light switches, counters, etc). This cleaning service includes sweeping or vacuuming any visible dirt or debris before applying our hospital-grade cleaner. We use a combination of wiping, misting and spraying to apply the cleaner based on what works best for each surface.

If you’d rather opt for doing it yourself, here’s a list of EPA approved cleaners. If you are having a hard time finding cleaners at the store, you can make your own with products you likely already have at home. In addition, laundering any items that can be thrown in the washing machine will clean your clothes. Be sure to clean the laundry hamper if you have a sick person at home.
